The heat pump system grant covers the heat pump itself plus a central heating element for new radiators or underfloor heating. Your home has to have been built and occupied before 2021, and a technical assessment by an SEAI registered assessor is required first. ### Do I need to insulate the house before a heat pump? Usually yes. The technical assessment sets a heat loss indicator target, and if the house does not meet it you have to carry out the upgrades listed before the heat pump goes in. ### Will a heat pump work with my existing radiators? Sometimes, but heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators often need to be bigger. That is exactly what the central heating element of the grant is intended to cover. ### Are heat pumps cheaper to run than a gas boiler? In a well insulated house, generally yes, because of the efficiency of the unit.
