Gas Boiler Installation: common questions
- How long does it take to install a new gas boiler?
- A straight swap in the same spot is usually a one-day job. If the boiler is moving position, or pipework and flue runs need changing, it can run into a second day. We tell you which it is before we start.
- Do I need an RGI registered installer to replace a gas boiler?
- Yes. Gas work in Ireland has to be carried out by an RGI registered gas installer, and the installation has to be commissioned and certified. Radiant is RGI registered and you get the certificate for the job.
- Is there an SEAI grant for a new gas boiler?
- No. SEAI does not grant-aid a like-for-like fossil fuel boiler replacement. Grants are there for insulation, heating controls, heat pumps and solar. Heating controls fitted at the same time can qualify separately if your home meets the build-year rule.
- What size boiler does my house need?
- It depends on the number of radiators, the hot water demand and how well insulated the house is — not on what was there before. We work it out on site rather than guessing from the old model number.
- Which boiler brands do you install?
- We fit the main brands available in Ireland, including Worcester Bosch and Ideal. We will tell you honestly where the price difference between models is worth paying and where it is not.
- How much does a new boiler cost to install?
- It comes down to the boiler you pick and how much pipework, flue and controls work goes with it. A straight swap is at the lower end; moving the boiler or converting the system costs more. We quote in writing after seeing the house, so the figure you get is the figure you pay.
- What happens on the day of the installation?
- We drain the system, take the old boiler out, fit and pipe the new one, flush and refill, then commission it and set the controls with you. Floors and doorways are covered, the old boiler is taken away, and you get the certificate and paperwork before we leave.
- Will I be without heat or hot water?
- Only for the working day, and we aim to have heat and hot water back on the same evening. If the job runs to a second day we will let you know in advance so you can plan around it.
